2012 Holiday Bar Crawl-iday & AJ's Kids
|

Who: AJ's Kids
What: To restore, sustain and enhance the health and developmental potential of children through excellence in care, education, research and advocacy.
Where: San Diego
VAVi's fourth annual Ugly Sweater Holiday Bar Crawl-iday in Pacific Beach was another great success! With the help of everyone who participated we were able to raise $2,000 for AJ's kids.

2012 Orange County Electric Run & Movember
|
|
Who: Movember
What: Raising awareness and funds for men's health issues, specifically prostate and testicular cancer initiatives.
Where: Nationwide
VAVi's first ever Electric Run of a nation wide series was held in Orange County in November and supported Movember. Through our campaign efforts we were able to bring major awareness of Men's Health to Orange County as well as raise $2,684 for Movember.

2012 Del Mar Mud Run & Challenged Athletes Foundation

Who: Challenged Athletes Foundation
What: Helping military personnel, veterans and responders with permanent physical disabilities pursue active lifestyles.
Where: Nationwide
The 2012 Del Mar Mud Run presented by Dr. Bronner's was once again happy to support the Challenged Athletes Foundation. Our title sponsor, Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps helped us reach our goal with a very generous donation of $10,000! Through fundraising from mud runners, VAVi, and donation of Dr. Bronners, the 2012 Del Mar Mud Run was able to raise over $24,000 for Challenged Athletes Foundation.

What: Helping military personnel, veterans and responders with permanent physical disabilities pursue active lifestyles.

VAVi continued its support of the Challenged Athletes foundation, this year with the support of NBA Legend Bill Walton. Both Walton and VAVi strive to continue their efforts to help disabled athletes continue to stay active. Through fundraising from ROC Racers and VAVi, ROC Race was able to raise $25,000 for Challenged Athletes Foundation.

Who: Special Olympics
What: Special Olympics strive to give sporting opportunities to those who would normally be cast aside
Where: Worldwide
VAVi was proud to be a main sponsor of the 2012 USD LXA & APHI Powder Puff Football Tournament by contributing all sports equipment to the event. The University of San Diego Greek Life students were able to raise money for Special Olympics with this year's installment of the extremely popular event.

Who: LHON Project Fund
What: Raising money to cure Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy, a disease that causes young adults to lose their eyesight.
Where: San Diego
VAVi was proud to be a main sponsor of the Third Annual Sun Cup in Mission Beach San Diego. Three universities came together to raise money to help a fellow SDSU classmate who suffers from LHON. The event was able to raise $14,000 for future research and patient advocacy.

Cinco De Mayo Tailgate & Re Spectrum Community

Who: Re Spectrum Community
What: Re Spectrum Community is developed to assist and guide families in creating change, both within their immediate families and among the autism community, through therapeutic support, recreation, and community activities for the whole family.
Where: San Diego
On Cinco De Mayo, VAVi threw its annual San Diego Padre’s tailgate for the Padres v. Miami Marlins game. Through this event, VAVi raised $2,250 for Re Spectrum Community.

What: Encouraging men to grow moustaches to show support for men's healt, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men
Where: Worldwide
VAVi went big during November. Or should we say Movember! Movember was the charity for LA ROC Race. Movember was created to bring awareness to Prostate Cancer and other male related causes. Movember was integrated into a the marketing campaign. Movember & VAVi teamed up for multiple PR spots and brough massive awareness to the organization. Through efforts, just under $1,000 was raised beyond the awareness.

Challenge Athletes Foundation was the ideal fit for the 2011 Del Mar Mud Run. The mission of the Challenged Athletes Foundation® (CAF) to provide opportunities and support to people with physical disabilities so they can pursue active lifestyles through physical fitness and competitive athletics. CAF believes that involvement in sports at any level increases self-esteem, encourages independence and enhances quality of life. VAVi raised over $5,000 through efforts their fundraising efforts through this incredible event. CAF even had multiple athletes running the race and conquering the course. The event was a tremendous success and will set groundwork for future collaborations.

What: Improve access and quality care for families dealing with autism
Where: San Diego
Re Spectrum Community is a 501c3 Non-Profit operating in San Diego developed to assist and guide families in creating change, both within their immediate families and among the autism community, through therapeutic support and community activities for the whole family.
Re Spectrum Community is dedicated to achieving social justice, by way of ReAbling a community of people that may have been rendered disabled, disordered, disconnected or disassociated from their larger communities because of a label or due to a diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
VAVi is pleased to present Re Spectrum Community as the third recipient of our 2011 charity giveaway contest based solely on voting by our members. The YWCA of San Diego County provides women and families with the shelter and services they need to escape homelessness and domestic violence. Our menu of programs and services - including residential programs, counseling, legal support and career assistance - are designed to accommodate the physical, emotional, intellectual and social services needs of homeless women and families as well as those facing domestic violence issues.

For more than 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. As the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 6 through 18, in communities across the country. We develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.
VAVi is happy to say Big Brothers Big Sisters is the first recipient of our charity giveaway in 2011 based solely on voting by our members. VAVi is sending 3 teams to the 2011 Teen Adventure Challenge! The CORE Teen Adventure Challenge is a rewarding & healthy experience for teens & their adult team captain. Teams race through a strategically designed wilderness course which includes a series of adventure-based activities & teambuilding challenges that give students an opportunity to practice leadership & life skills in a safe & fun environment.

What: Raise, distribute and assist in the management of public and private sector funds for enhancements to City of San Diego park facilities and recreation programs.

San Diego Friends of Park & Recreation hold a special place in our hearts. They work tirelessly to ensure the fields we all use for our leagues are maintained and playable. In 2010 we raised $3,500 to assist in their upkeep of San Diego's parks as well helped clean up the parks with our Volunteer Club.

What: Fundraising to support the children at Rady Children's Hospital

In 2010 VAVi raised $1,100 for AJ’s Kids & Rady Childrens Hospital through our charity bar crawl - VAVi’s Holiday Bar Crawliday! AJ Machado is a local radio morning show host on Star 94.1 and his AJ's Kids charity has raised money for sick kids throughout San Diego. VAVi is happy to support such a great cause. - Supported the Great Strides to Cure Cystic Fibrosis, Super Frog Triathlon and Gran Fondo races
- I Love A Clean San Diego Beach Cleanup at Mariner’s Point
- Presidio Recreation Center Beautification

Who: Alzheimer's Association
What: Big Quash Scavenger Hunt
Where: San Diego
QUASH stands for the Quest to Unravel Alzheimer's, a campus-wide Scavenger Hunt. Think along the lines of The Amazing Race, but without the cameras and month-long commitment. To win teams solved as many clues as they could – keeping an eye on the clock, your opponents and your teammates' sense of direction. Some clues will asked to collect campus trivia, and others guided you to complete a physical or mental challenge.

Who: Kicks For Kids Ronald McDonald House San Diego
What: Donation program where the amount of money donated by individuals depends on kicks done by Chargers players.
When: San Diego Chargers football season.
There is always time to make a pledge and join forces with San Diego Chargers kicker Nate Kaeding (10) in his quest to help San Diego’s Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) fund the new Ronald McDonald House through his Kicks for Kids program. The new House is now under construction across from Rady Children’s Hospital and will support families with seriously ill children at Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).

What: A non-profit youth sports organization in San Diego whose goal is to promote healthy, active, positive lifestyles to kids ages 5 – 17 by providing youth athletic programs to the youth of our community.

Who: American Cancer Society
What: Overnight event that raises funds and awareness to fight cancer.
Where: Worldwide
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. At Relay, teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events up to 24 hours in length.
