VAVi's National Kickball Championship
Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. When is the next VAVi Tournament?

A. The date for VAVi's next tournament has not been set.  Please visit www.govavi.com for the latest information.

Q. Who can enter the tournament?

A. Anyone can register.  With two divisions it doesn't matter if you are good (or think you are) or just want to have some fun and laugh with your friends.  Even if you don't have a full team, you can sign up as a free agent or small group and we'll find one for you.

Q. When and where is the tournament?

A. VAVi's National Kickball Championship is on Saturday, October 4, 2008 from 8:00am to 5:00pm at Liberty Station's NTC Park in Point Loma about 5 miles from downtown San Diego, CA.

Q. How old do I have to be to play?

A. This is an adult tournament.  You must be at least 18 years of age to register.  You must be at least 21 years of age to enter the beer garden.

Q. What are the different divisions?

A. There are two divisions.  The Kick Ass Division is our most competitive with $4000 in cash prize money for the top two teams (1st place is guaranteed $3000 and 2nd place is guaranteed $1000).  The Just for Kicks Division is more social with less emphasis on winning and more emphasis on having fun and meeting people.  There will be trophies and prizes, but no cash prize money.

Q. How many players can be on a team?

A. Teams consist of 10 players (6 men and 4 women) in the field and everyone kicks.  We recommend 12-15 players per team for substitutions and no shows.  Free agents and small groups will have 12-15 players per team.

Q. On what type of field are we playing?

A. NTC has a huge grass park (enough for 8 kickball fields).  There is no dirt, it's all grass.  True Kickballers can adjust to any playing surface ... can you?

Q. Will the games have umpires?

A. Yes.  The Kick Ass Division will have umpires on every game.  The Just for Kicks Division will have umpires on every single elimination game and most likely on every double elimination game.  If you would like to be an umpire, please contact John at john@govavi.com or 858-273-3485 x18.

Q. What else do I get?

A. Not only do you get an entire day of playing the greatest "sport" on the planet, we also have a beer garden sponsored by Miller Lite, DJs from Baja Sound System, a live band featuring Erick Macek, and food from Oggi's pizza.  It's a kickball tournament and a kick ass party.

Q. How much for the food and beverages?

A. Beers and Wine are $5, Margaritas are $7, sodas and water are $2.  Oggi's lunch packages are $5 which includes 2 slices of pizza and a salad or a sandwich wrap and salad.

Q. Can we bring alcohol?  Where can we drink?

A. Because of the city wide alcohol ban, drinking alcohol outside the beer garden is illegal.  It's not worth risking a ticket from the SDPD.  No need to bring your own booze, you'll have plenty of opportunities to have an adult beverage in the beer garden.

Q. What should I bring?

A. Although food and beverages will be available, we suggest bringing plenty of water and maybe some snacks ... orange slices are delicious.  We will have limited seating and shade available, so bring chairs and tents for shade (if you have them).  You'll also need cash for the beer garden and lunch.  There are ATM machines within walking distance if you forget.

Q. Can I wear cleats?

A. Yes, as long as they are rubber cleats.  Metal cleats are prohibited and shame on you for thinking about wearing them ... it's kickball.

Q. Can I register for and play on more than one team?

A. Yes, you may play on multiple teams.  However, the game schedule is extremely busy and you may not be able to play all the games for all the teams.  We recommend picking one division and one team.  You may NOT play on multiple teams in the same division.  You may only be on one team roster in each division and only roster members are eligible for cash and non-cash prizes.  Basically, no switching teams at the end of the day.

Q. Can I really win money?  How much?

A. Yes, sign up for the Kick Ass Division with $4000 in cash prize money.  1st Place is guaranteed $3000 and 2nd Place is guaranteed $1000.  Watch out, this will ruin your amateur status ... you'll be a professional "athlete".  The Just for Kicks Division has trophies and prizes, but no cash prize money.

Q. When is the deadline to register?

A. Visit www.govavi.com to register for the next VAVi Tournament.  Don't procrastinate.  Sign up today.  The last day to register a TEAM online is Thursday, October 2nd at 12:00pm.  Online registration has been closed for individuals, but if you don't have a full team, call 858-273-3485 to sign up as a free agent or small group and we'll try to find a team for you.
