VAVi's Grass Volleyball Championship
Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. When is the next VAVi Tournament?

A. VAVi's National Grass Volleyball Championship is scheduled for Sunday, June 28, 2009.  VAVi's National Kickball Championship is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2009.  Please visit www.govavi.com for the latest information.

Q. Who can enter the tournament?

A. Anyone can register.  With two divisions it doesn't matter if you are good (or think you are) or just want to have some fun and laugh with your friends.  Even if you don't have a full team, you can sign up as a free agent or small group and we'll find one for you.

Q. When and where is the tournament?

A. VAVi's Grass Volleyball Championship is on Sunday, June 28, 2009 from 8:00am to 5:00pm at Liberty Station's NTC Park in Point Loma about 5 miles from downtown San Diego, CA.

Q. How old do I have to be to play?

A. This is an adult tournament.  You must be at least 18 years of age to register.  You must be at least 21 years of age to enter the beer garden.

Q. What are the different divisions?

A. There are two divisions.  Spike In Your Face is our competitive coed 4v4 division with trophies and prizes.  Bump & Grind is our social coed 4v4 division with trophies and prizes.

Q. How many players can be on a team?

A. Teams consist of 4 players with 1 or 2 women per team (or more) depending on the division.  Substitutions are allowed in the competitive divisions and are encouraged in the social divisions.  You may play with more women, but not with less than the required number.

Q. On what type of field are we playing?

A. NTC has a huge grass park (enough for 16 grass courts).  If you haven't been there, you're going to love it.

Q. Will the games have referees?

A. No.  We will have staff available upon request, but you are encouraged to referee your own games and call your own mistakes.

Q. What else do I get?

A. Not only do you get an entire day of playing volleyball, we also have a beer garden, food, music, and games for spectators.  It's a volleyball tournament, a day at the park, and a party ... oh my.

Q. How much for the food and beverages?

A. Miller Lite beers for just $3, sodas and water are $2.  Pizza is $3 per slice.  Lunch packages are $7.50 which includes a slice of pizza & salad or a sandwich wrap & salad.

Q. Can we bring alcohol?  Where can we drink?

A. Because of the city wide alcohol ban, drinking alcohol outside the beer garden is illegal.  It's not worth risking a ticket from the SDPD.  No need to bring your own booze, you'll have plenty of opportunities to have an adult beverage in our beer garden.

Q. What should I bring?

A. Although food and beverages will be available, we suggest bringing plenty of water and maybe some snacks ... orange slices are delicious.  We will have limited seating and shade available, so bring chairs and tents for shade (if you have them).  You'll also need cash for the beer garden and lunch.  There are ATM machines within walking distance if you forget.

Q. Can I wear shoes?

A. Yes (recommended) or bare feet.

Q. Can I register for and play on more than one team?

A. Yes, you may play on multiple teams.  However, the game schedule is extremely busy and you may not be able to play all the games for all the teams.  We recommend picking one division and one team.  You may NOT play on multiple teams in the same division.  You may only be on one team roster in each division and only roster members are eligible for prizes.  Basically, no switching teams at the end of the day.

Q. What do I win?

A. Sign up for the competitive division and be eligible for top notch prizes.  Watch out, this could ruin your amateur status ... you'll be a "professional athlete".  The social divisions also have trophies and prizes.

Q. When is the deadline to register?

A. Don't procrastinate.  Sign up today.  If you have any questions, please call 858-273-3485.
