VAVI Sport & Social Club offers volunteer opportunities throughout San Diego with local organizations. Our website and email newsletter will notify you of potential opportunities that you can potentially volunteer for. We have been involved with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Cancer Relay For Life, and many more organizations throughout the San Diego area.

Big Brothers Big Sisters and VAVi have teamed up to recruit men to become Big Brothers to the youth of San Diego County. |

If you are over 18, you can volunteer in one of the following two programs:
The Community-Based Mentoring Program, where you meet with your Little Brother just 2-4 times a month and do activities you both enjoy in the community, like going to the beach or watching a baseball game.
OR
The School-Based Mentoring Program, which is just one hour a week at the child's elementary school, after the school day has ended. This is your chance to be a kid again (remember recess?!)

Why we need you...
|
At this time the need is especially great for men to serve as Big Brothers. About 70% of the kids currently waiting for a ‘”Big” are male, but only 30% of our volunteer inquiries come from men. On average, a boy will end up waiting more than 33% longer for a “Big” than a girl. Throughout the county boys and young men are looking for someone to have fun with, and by sharing a friendship with a child through time spent simply playing catch or going on a hike can help a child avoid negative behaviors and succeed in life.
It is just a one-year commitment, with flexible hours to fit your schedule.
Remember, you don't have to find more time in your schedule to be a "Big", just put more fun in the time you have!
